In-Home Lesson Rates and Details

Instruments:

Specializing in Guitar, Piano, and Bass Guitar of all levels and styles, I have also added, by popular demand, beginning and intermediate Woodwinds including Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone.  In addition to these instruments, I also offer sessions for Music Composition, Songwriting, and Music Theory.

A brief background story:

After completing degrees in music composition and mass communications, I began teaching guitar, piano, and general music through my private, in-home studio service, and at Harford Community College, where I was adjunct faculty for nine years.

As a performer in the Maryland area, I have appeared at regional venues and events over the past 25 years with many groups and as a solo artist. Recently, I was the “resident” guitarist for the Spirit Cruises that sail from the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

My recordings are available at most on-line outlets for music as well as at my website, where I also have the sheet music transcriptions of original music from the album, Platforms. I currently have published four method books for the guitar available at this website.

My approach to teaching:

I place an emphasis on the fundamentals of musicianship including reading notated music and proper performance technique. I like to keep the lesson time fun and engaging and structure assignments around the student’s needs as part of a balanced learning experience that includes other responsibilities and school/life workload. Over the years, I have performed and studied just about every major style of music, but I leave it up to the student to express interests that guide the lessons in a particular style to be studied beyond the fundamentals.

My rates:

I have two scheduling options currently available: weekly and semi-weekly.

For both, the rate is $75 per hour. I also offer a 45 minute session for $60.

In cases where the needs of the student would be best served by concluding the lesson before the allotted time has passed, the full agreed upon rate still applies.

Payment for all scheduled lessons in each calendar month are to be paid in full on the date of the first lesson of the month.

My requirements:

In-home lessons are to take place in an open area of the home, such as a living or dining room that is free from distractions. Parents or guardians must be at the home during lessons for minors.

Due to variations in scheduling as well as traffic, it is best if the scheduled lesson time can accommodate a 20 minute window on either side of the start time. I will call if I am delayed by more than 20 minutes or if I can arrive much earlier than scheduled.
